More than 1,700 volunteers took part in community cleanup and beautification projects across Fresno this morning as Mayor Jerry Dyer’s Beautify Fresno program celebrated its third Great American Cleanup. A record total of 15,250 pounds of trash and litter were removed from streets, parks, highway embankments, and riverfronts in 20 locations while removing over 50,000 square feet of graffiti in two hours.
The cleanup locations included historic areas such as the Brewery District downtown, the Highway City district, the Tower District, and the Community Regional Medical Center area. Volunteers also picked up litter and trash along the Ventura and Kings Canyon corridors, in alleys around southeast Fresno, and the Fresno State area around Cedar and Shaw along with litter and graffiti abatement near the McKinley Avenue exit on State Route 168. Other locations included areas around Woodward Park, Riverbottom Park, Melody Park, Calwa Park and Lions Skate Park, and Roosevelt High School and Olmos Elementary School.
The Great American Cleanup was sponsored by Mayor Jerry Dyer’s One Fresno Foundation, Amazon, Southwest Airlines, ULTA Beauty, Producers Dairy, OUTFRONT Media, Nalchajian Orthodontics, Caglia Environmental, Mid Valley Disposal, Allbritten Plumbing, Affinity Trucking Center, the Downtown Fresno Partnership, Keep California Beautiful, Bridge Church, Lowe’s and the Fresno Grizzlies.
Beautify Fresno is one of Mayor Jerry Dyer’s top priorities with a mission to inspire everyone to take pride in their community and to show the community that we can all take action to make Fresno a cleaner, greener, better place to live.

The projects were made possible through the support of some of Fresno’s top groups, clubs, organizations and businesses, including Caltrans, the Downtown Fresno Partnership, Fresno State Marketing 100S Classes, Familias en Acción, Calwa Parks and Recreation, the Bridge Church, Affinity Truck Center, Quiring General, Goldstein’s Mortuary and Delicatessen, the 144th Air National Guard Fighter Wing, Highway City Community Development Corporation, Roosevelt High School and Clovis West High School Beautify Fresno Clubs, Southeast Fresno Community Economic Development Association’s (SEFCEDA), Every Neighborhood Partnership, AmeriCorps, Fresno Unified Parent University, River Tree Volunteers, and the Fresno City College Fire Academy Class 59.
